This time, the Clippers resist Luka Doncic’s new show | NBA

No again for Luka Doncic. Author of 51 points this week against the Clippers, he gives 45 to the same defense! Except that this time, it is insufficient since the players of Tyronn Lue are essential 99-97 thanks to exploits of Reggie Jackson and Terrence Mann in the “money time”.

However, the Clippers really shook as Doncic scored 23 points in the last quarter, including his team’s last 19! A real “one man show”, and yet the Clippers defense has nothing to be ashamed of. The anti-Doncic plan worked for a long time, then individual talent did the rest. Mann and Jackson waste ammunition on free throws, and the Slovenian has the match point. We know the scenario in advance, and on the throw-in, Doncic receives the ball 10 meters away. A small side step to swing his usual bomb. This time, it hits the side of the circle, and the Clippers win in the snatch in Dallas.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

The Clippers defense. You can take 45 points from an opponent and still be satisfied with the defense. This is the case of the Clippers who did their best to hinder Doncic. They cut him off from his teammates, while trying to keep him out as much as possible. Result, many complicated shots and stray bullets. Of course, he caught fire in the 4th quarter, but this “one man show” was more of a sign of weakness since his teammates had become spectators and, above all, the Clippers won.

The weakness of the Mavericks bench. Certainly the recruits from the Wizards are not yet dressed, but Dallas can not win with a bench that has four small points. Only Frank Ntilikina and Josh Green scored a basket. Lay-ups elsewhere. The four substitutes combine a 2 of 14 on shots in 56 minutes!

TOPS/FLOPS

The Mann/Jackson pair. We would have thought we were in the playoffs to see them combine in the 4th quarter. The former seems more comfortable as a playmaker, and his defense on Doncic has been outstanding for three quarters. The two even nagged each other to the point of each receiving a technique. Mann also performs his best game of the season. For his part, Jackson was “clutch” with complicated but decisive shots of which he has the secret. His mind and his aggressiveness are still precious. Watch out for free throws: 4 out of 8 for the tandem.

Marcus Morris. Like Ivica Zubac, he hurt the interiors of the Mavericks very badly. His mastery of the mid-range game is impressive. We always believe he is involved in complicated things, and yet he puts in it. His supports are sturdy, he has a job, and he plants 20 points without seeming to touch them.

Luka Doncic. 96 points in two games against the Clippers for Doncic… He is still as strong in one-on-one, but as in the playoffs, the Clippers have the last word. Difficult to blame him for anything since he combines 45 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists. He lacked an outside shooter to rule out the game and relieve him in attack. Bertans will do him good.

Dorian Finney-Smith. Extended at a high price, the winger must bring more in attack. Defensively he struggled to contain Morris, and on the other side of the pitch he is content to run and screen. His shyness is expensive.
