All financial investments LeBron James are not successes. If the Lakers superstar was able to position himself for great opportunities such as when he became a shareholder of the Liverpool football club, his media company “SpringHill Company” is clearly suffering the blow.
Its deficit for the year 2023 was thus estimated at $28 million, almost double the previous year with already a $17 million loss! And the hole could continue to widen in 2024.
Founded in 2020 with his lifelong friend and collaborator Maverick Carter, the company produces TV shows, films, such as “Space Jam 2” in which LeBron James has the main role, but also the docuseries “Starting 5” currently on Netflix, in which it is also present.
The “King” can’t be everywhere!
Maverick Carter has for the moment been content with a declaration by email, assuring that he was going to work on reducing costs to try to gradually raise the bar, he who had experienced a rather successful first in the sector by creating with LeBron James the company UNINTERRUPTED, which notably produced “The Shop”.
“The evolution of the entertainment market in 2022/2023 in terms of profitability has led to increased costs, a slowdown in buyer decisions and the impact of industrial strikes, which has prompted us to recalibrate, including terminating underperforming projects to position ourselves for future growth”, he declared.
“SpringHill Company” may have a good vein with the docuseries “Starting 5”, but it will also have to succeed in diversifying, with projects that do not necessarily include LeBron James in the program.
“We built this business with LeBron, not around him”added Maverick Carter. “He remains deeply committed to sharing the vision and mission he helped shape, focusing more actively on some equally exciting projects.”
