The Jazz miss the match point against the Warriors | NBA

In a game without address, the best defense in the league took over the best offense in the NBA. The Warriors were without Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala, while the Jazz made the trip without Donovan Mitchell or Hassan Whiteside.

The two teams compete from outside address to start the match. 15 points from the Stephen Curry – Andrew Wiggins duo meet 18 from the Bojan Bogdanovic – Mike Conley pair, and the Warriors take the lead (33-29). Already the author of two award-winning shots in the first quarter, Damion Lee doubled his capital to put Utah on the ropes (39-29). The Jazz defense then tightens the screw to stop the bleeding. Rudy Gay brings them back in the game, before the former Warrior, Eric Paschall, gives them the advantage, but a 3-pointer from Jordan Poole allows Golden State to return to the locker room at +1 (55-54).

Despite Stephen Curry again clumsy from afar, the Warriors start the third quarter time on a 12-4 behind Poole’s aggressiveness and a defense that hardens. The Jazz clings but two interceptions in a row from Gary Payton II pushes the gap to +13 (79-66). It takes a 12-0 lead by the Gobert – Gay – Clarkson trio straddling the end of the third and start of the fourth period to completely reverse the trend and give the Jazz a three-step lead (86-83)!

Andrew Wiggins raises Golden State before the two defenses take over (89-89). While points are scarce, an offensive rebound followed by a 2 + 1 from Kevon Looney gives the Warriors a 5-point lead (94-89). Mute for more than 3 minutes, a 3-pointer from Bogdanovic followed by a defensive stop gave the match point to Jazz.

Unfortunately for Utah, the Croatian’s long shot is a mess and Royce O’Neale’s tap fails on the circle to give the Warriors another narrow victory.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– The expensive lost balloons of the Jazz. With 12 lost balls in the match, Quin Snyder’s men have nothing to be ashamed of. Each of these blunders, however, paid off in cash since the Warriors scored 20 points on the loss of opposing balls, including 11 in the third quarter when they widened the gap.

– Rudy Gobert omnipresent but… injured at the end. Whether in attack or defense, the pivot of the France team left its mark on the match. 7 of his 18 rebounds came on offense to give his teammates plenty of second chances. He also served as a scarecrow on the other side of the pitch. His presence in the racket caused Golden State to stay away from the paint. They have indeed taken only 18% of their shots near the circle while they are shooting this season at more than 33%, according to Cleaning The Glass. But with a calf injury, he had to leave at the very end of the match, replaced by Eric Paschall.

– Golden State’s defense still makes the difference. Despite the absence of Draymond Green, the Warriors defense continues to be intractable. After the Jazz 11-0 to start the last quarter, Golden State limited their opponent to 2/16 on shots and only 6 points in the last 9 minutes of the game. With a very average 31% from 3-point skill, it was the Dubs’ defensive intensity that allowed them to win the game. An increasingly recurring theme for over a month.

TOPS/FLOPS

Jordan Poole. Again holder to replace a Klay Thompson touched in the knee, he was the best Warrior this night. With 20 points, he finished as his team’s leading scorer and, like against Houston, he attacked the Utah defense relentlessly. He was also the author of the action of the game, bringing down Jordan Clarkson with a cross before scoring from 3-point behind.

Otto Porter Jr. Holder in place of Draymond Green, he continues to be solid. He finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and was essential on defense the entire game.

Damion Lee. His 4 of 6 3-pointers off the bench was valuable in a game where the Warriors lacked skill.

Rudy Gobert. The Jazz pivot finished the game with a new double-double (12 points, 18 rebounds) and he was omnipresent throughout the game.

Bojan Bogdanovic. The winger came within a hair’s breadth of delivering the win with his side. He finished as the team’s top scorer with 21 points.

Stephen Curry. Struggling in 2022, the two-time MVP scored just 13 points on the night and missed 9 of his 10 award-winning shots, including plenty of open shots. However, he distributed 6 assists and was invaluable in defense.

Jordan Clarkson. The sixth man of the Jazz also had a complicated evening, finishing 3 out of 13 on shots.
