The choice of wisdom for Jimmy Butler

As in the series against Milwaukee, Jimmy Butler found himself on the mat. And as after his heavy fall which had hit him in the back in the first round of these playoffs, he got up from his big sprain suffered during Game 1 won on the floor of Madison Square Garden to complete his masterful work.

Erik Spoelstra then praised his leader’s iron mind and his ability to play and perform despite the pain. For the match of the night, however, wisdom prevailed. Erik Spoelstra confided that the final decision was up to the staff, because if he had listened to himself and if he had followed the will of his player, Jimmy Butler would undoubtedly have played this Game 2!

Butler as a luxury assistant

“At this stage, we are having very reasonable discussions. I know what he thinks about it. I know what he wants to do. This is not a decision between Jimmy and me. We’re probably the worst people to rely on to make that kind of decision.”, he confided before the meeting. “We have to call on the medical staff, the coaching staff and make a responsible decision. This is the decision we made and we all agree with it”.

The Heat may have been comforted in their decision by the result of the previous day’s game in the other Eastern Conference semi-final where Joel Embiid forfeited, which did not prevent the Sixers from winning at Boston! With a Jimmy Butler as a luxury assistant on the Heat bench that night, Miami was not far from doing the same since the two teams were tied until the last minutes of the game before the Knicks managed to take over.

The good news is that Jimmy Butler will now have until Saturday to recover from his injury.
