Suns too strong for Bulls | NBA

In this remake of the poster for the 1993 Finals, which saw two leading teams in their respective conferences challenge each other, it was the Suns who enforced logic, on the floor of the Bulls (127-124).

Because, in the wake of a superb Devin Booker (38 points, 5 assists), it is indeed the best team in the league which disposed without forcing teammates of DeMar DeRozan (38 points, 5 rebounds) and Zach LaVine ( 32 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists).

Contrary to what the score might suggest, it was anything but complicated for Phoenix, who quietly led between 10 and 25 points throughout the match, before Chicago managed to gradually reduce the gap, when the fate of this meeting was already decided.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

Devin Booker, spearhead of Phoenix. A follower of successful half-time starts so far, the Suns back has shown that he is comfortable with warming up from the start. Author of 16 points in the first act, then 14 points in the third quarter, “D-Book” made the song to his defenders each time he left the locker room. Just indefensible, whether at mid-range, 3-pts or in the paint, the now three-time All-Star wore his all evening, recalling as often his mentor Kobe Bryant when he catches fire and masters at this point his subject in attack, without worrying about the opposing defense.

DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine… and the others. If the Suns were able to rely on a collective gala last night (six players with 10 points or more), impossible to say the same of the Bulls, who only existed through their All-Star duo, responsible 70 of their 124 points. In turn, DeRozan and LaVine therefore tried everything to revive their team, when it was 10, 15, 20 or even 25 points behind. Except that two players cannot overthrow, on their own, an opponent so sure of his strength. Even if they are capable of each exceeding the 30-point mark or iNFLaming the boiling public of the United Center.

Chicago’s defense didn’t hold up. Already weakened by the absences of Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, Patrick Williams and Derrick Jones Jr, the Bulls played as a bonus with a diminished Zach LaVine, for the second game of their “back-to-back”. Inevitably, against the Suns at their zenith, the Chicago players took the sauce defensively. Regularly behind the opposing shooters and not always willing to make defensive efforts, Billy Donovan’s men were undoubtedly exhausted by their clash the day before with the Sixers. Hence this setback conceded without ever having hoped for a moment.

TOPS/FLOPS

Chris Paul. Without forcing, the leader of the Suns signed a new double-double points / assists. As much to say it immediately: the superlatives miss to qualify the faculty which has “CP3” to cut the opposing defenses. Both with his decisive passes on “pick-and-roll”, with his baskets at mid-distance and out of the screen. Certainly a little more expensive than usual (4 ball losses), especially after the break, because he had to do violence to repel the Bulls, the man with 12 All-Star Game selections treats as always in his role as boss of the Phoenix offense.

JaVale McGee. The “second unit” of Phoenix was still very good and iNFLuential today, thanks in particular to the performance of their replacement pivot (16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks). Well served by Chris Paul, of course, or Elfrid Payton, also interesting off the bench, the three-time NBA champion caused mayhem in the Bulls’ racket, with his athletic qualities and his robustness. Proof of his self-confidence, he totally allowed himself to hit the mark at 3-pts, before the break! In addition to laying down the law on the offensive rebound (5 takes), so as to help his team plant 17 points as a second chance.

Ayo Dosunmu. If the Bulls would have hoped for a more regular and important contribution from Nikola Vucevic, certainly author of a double-double thanks to a better second period, the performance of their rookie was mediocre from start to finish. Unable to find his rhythm on offense (1/7 on shots, 0/4 on 3-pts) and also martyred on defense by maestro Chris Paul and, above all, by the diabolical Devin Booker, the 22-year-old delivered the one of his worst performances of the season.
