Spurs and Rockets were interested in Austin Reaves

The Lakers were desperate to keep Austin Reaves this offseason and they managed to do so, with a four-year, $56 million contract for the guard, who emerged this season as a third option alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

This is not to displease the player, who deeply hoped to continue his adventure in Los Angeles, despite the interest of several franchises.

“There was Houston, before Fred VanVleet signed, then San Antonio,” slides Austin Reaves for the podcast All The Smoke. “I really wanted to be in Los Angeles, from the start. There were a few situations, but I wanted to stay with the Lakers, it’s my home. This is where I wanted to be. »

The Rockets and Spurs were the two teams with the biggest recruiting envelopes this summer. Our colleague Zach Lowe also explained that the Spurs hesitated to offer a contract to Austin Reaves, which could have reached up to 100 million dollars over four years, before finally not trying anything.

Perhaps because the Lakers had made it known that they were going to line up no matter what for the one who is considered a potential All-Star. The Texans may have imagined that they couldn’t attract the back, so abandoned this lead which was not going to work.

Inevitably, faced with this lack of competition, prices did not explode and the Californians were able to keep Austin Reaves with a contract of “only” 14 million per season, thus achieving a very good operation.
