Orlando wins the duel of the dunces of the East | NBA

From the first minutes, the Magic took the lead over the Pistons. In the duel of the rookies, it is Franz Wagner and Jalen Suggs who shine the most: they accumulate 10 points, while Cade Cunningham is struggling in attack (0/5). In the wake of its two “lottery picks”, the Magic deliver an offensive card in the first quarter: 39 points at 15/22 on shots, including 13 points from Franz Wagner. The Pistons show a new face for the second quarter and pick up at -7 under the impetus of their bench (27 points for the trio Trey Lyles – Rodney McGruder – Killian Hayes), while Gary Harris scores 10 points out of Magic side bench. On the return of the holders from Orlando at the end of the quarter, the scenario at the start of the match repeated itself and the gap swelled again (67-51 at halftime).

Bis repeated after returning from the locker room

As in the second quarter, the Pistons manage to drop below the 10-point mark after the break (74-66), despite Cade Cunningham’s offensive suffering which persists (0/11). And once again, the Magic reacted quickly and widened the gap again under the impetus of an inspired Mo Bamba (12 points in the third quarter) and a sharp Chuma Okeke off the bench. At the start of the last quarter, Terrence Ross caught fire and scored four shots from behind the arc! The gap increases to +24, the suspense flies away. The end of the meeting falls into “garbage time”, but it’s rather pleasant to see since there are only young people having fun on the floor. In the end, the Magic won easily after an uNBAlanced match from start to finish (119-103).

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

A match under the sign of youth. The Magic and the Pistons are the two teams with the most players aged 24 and under (12 for Orlando, 11 for Detroit). The Amway Center looked like a youth center.

Killian Hayes on the bench in between. For the third consecutive meeting, the French started the game on the bench, replaced by Cory Joseph in the starting lineup. He still benefited from 24 minutes of play, which he made profitable: 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

TOPS/FLOPS

Franz Wagner. The second best scorer among the rookies this season delivered another big offensive game with 24 points at 7/12 in 27 minutes. The German is certainly in ambush for the rookie of the year trophy.

Mo Bamba and Wendell Carter Jr.. The two starting interiors of the Magic delivered a good game. The first signs a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds, when the second has 9 points and 11 rebounds. Alongside the winger Wagner and the backs Anthony and Suggs, the doublet of greats constitutes a base of pleasant young people and an interesting work base to prepare for the future in Orlando.

The benches of both teams : 56 points for the substitutes of the Pistons, 50 for those of the Magic. Terrence Ross on 21 points and Chuma Okeke on 17 points for the locals, Trey Lyles on 18 points and the Hayes / Jackson / McGruder trio on 33 points in aggregate for the visitors. The players of the two benches ensured this evening.

⛔️ Cade Cunningham. Nightmare night for the rookie, who missed his first nine shots in the first half, before converting just three of his next eight attempts in the second half. He finished 8 points at 3/17, an astonishing offensive sinking when he had just planted 34 points against the Nuggets last Tuesday.
