Competing platform of Netflix, which currently broadcasts “Redeem Team“, Amazon Prime Video offers since September 15 to discover “ Kobe: Una Storia Italiana“. As its name suggests, this 80-minute documentary traces the “Italian life” of the late Kobe Bryantson of Joe Bryant, a star of the Italian championship in the mid-80s. The directors, Jesus Garces Lambert and Giovanni Filippetto, criss-crossed the various cities where Kobe’s family stayed to find unpublished photos and videos, but also collect testimonials from former teachers, classmates or mini-basketball teammates.

Italian basketball stars, such as Danilo Gallinari, Marco Belinelli or Ettore Messina, recount the impact of Kobe Bryant and his unique mentality to become the number 1 in the NBA. The archives are exceptional, and the reconstructions bring lightness to the whole. The whole thing ends with a lot of emotion with the reading of “Dear Basketball” by each witness.
Initially, this documentary was reserved for Italian subscribers, but it is available in France, with French subtitles.
