Often penalized by technical faults, the Heat are not afraid of their emotions | NBA

There are only two teams taking more technical fouls per game than the Heat this season: the Jazz and the Suns. It’s clearly not surprising when you see Miami’s workforce, filled with strong heads.

Even Erik Spoelstra, who has taken five technical fouls this season, never hesitates to be heard and express his emotions in front of the referees.

“It’s a kennel”thus compares Bam Adebayo, for the Sun Sentinelwhen the Heat players are under pressure. “We want to win so much that sometimes we let our emotions take over. But that’s not a bad thing. We also see the coach, sometimes, who starts to boil and then manages to pull himself together. When we let out our emotions, that’s when we are welded. ”

Technical fouls are shared in Miami and no player is under threat of suspension: Kyle Lowry and Dewayne Dedmon have taken eight, Jimmy Butler six, Tyler Herro and Gabe Vincent three.

This nervousness does not seem to bother the coach of the 2020 finalists, even if the latter is still trying to calm down.

“I like that the players have this passion, that they are alive”says Erik Spoelstra. “And it brings out different emotions. We have a very competitive group and after my last technique (January 21 in Atlanta), I had made a promise to go to the All-Star Game without taking one back. Now I’m going to see if I can set myself a new goal. “

“A technical fault from time to time, that does not bother me. Good or bad, these are emotions that I love”

PJ Tucker, for his part, was sanctioned by the referees only twice. Is the 36-year-old wiser than his teammates? Not necessarily no, but more economical yes.

“I’m happy with myself. I improved in that area.” welcomes the 2021 champion. “I was tired of giving money to the NBA for bad whistles. I don’t do that anymore. We always try to control ourselves, but there are things we can’t control. We are talking about it. I like our heart, the fact that we fight every night and a technical foul from time to time, that doesn’t bother me. Good or bad, these are emotions that I love. Sometimes it turns into technical fouls, sometimes it changes the game. “

The times when it overflows in Miami were, for example, the two games against Portland: in Oregon, Kyle Lowry was expelled, then at home, Jimmy Butler joined the locker room before his teammates. Is it worrying two months before the playoffs?

“Once in a while it goes a little too far,” notes Bam Adebayo. “I also had techniques because I was going to explode. Then, we recover, we get back into the game. I did what I had to do and it’s time to get back in the game. We all have little crises with our emotions. We’re still humans. We can’t always be at our best, so it’s natural. “
