With only 14 minutes on his clock, Nicolas Batum played little in the Sixers’ defeat in New Orleans. For what ? Because he was hit on the right index finger in the third quarter. Taking no risks, he left his teammates without returning to the game.
“You have to be smart from time to time. We’ll see tomorrow because we haven’t done any exams yet.”commented the French for the Inquirer.
The Sixers obviously hope that the former Clippers will not be absent Friday night, against the Celtics. Because Nicolas Batum is already important in Philadelphia, a month after his arrival, to take care of opposing stars.
“He is so precious and in so many ways,” believes Nick Nurse. “He can defend all field and contests a lot of passes. This is the simplest way to defend against a player who doesn’t have the ball. »
Inspired by Scottie Pippen, ahead of his time
We see the influence of Scottie Pippen here. “He was the master of versatility on defense, taking care of playmaker all the way to pivot. He was ahead of his time. They say players do it today, he did it in the 1980s and 1990s. He was the player I was most inspired by growing up. »
In terms of influences, Nicolas Batum adds another name by citing Andrei Kirilenko. “I tried to take inspiration from these players for my game”he explains.
As with the Clippers, he does not shine with his individual statistics, averaging only 7.3 points and 4.4 rebounds. But the impact and the results are enough to make the former Portland and Charlotte happy.
“Basically, if my teammates and coaches are satisfied with my performance, I don’t care about the outside noise,” assures Nicolas Batum. “I’ve been like that since the start of my career. Everywhere I go, my teammates and my coaches like my game. For the rest, it’s funny because the fans discover me when I arrive somewhere, they didn’t think I could do that. It’s because, when I face them, I don’t have a flashy game. »
