Montrezl Harrell explains why he refused to join the Celtics

On September 6, Montrezl Harrell made the choice to strengthen the “Rockets connection” of the Sixers by joining Philadelphia. On the sidelines of his team’s first game on the Boston floor, the interior said he was contacted during the “free agency” by the Celtics!

The C’s had smelled the right move while the player’s rating had dropped, in particular due to an arrest in mid-June. Montrezl Harrell finally avoided prison at the end of August, making himself available on the market.

To listen to the main interested party, Boston did not know how to be convincing.

“It was towards the end of free agency. After they were done with my legal situation, they had a few conversations with my agent, but the role they wanted to give me was not for my benefit, only for their benefit”, he confided. “We had discussions. But honestly, it didn’t work. Their mindset, where they wanted me to play and how they wanted me to play was not ideal.

A role too vague

The main point of contention obviously resided in the role that the Celtics could offer him. The player also pointed to the fact that Boston did not know how to be clear enough about his intentions and could not guarantee him anything in terms of playing time, which ultimately cooled Montrezl Harrell.

“That wasn’t really going to help me. I mean, I’m definitely for the importance of the team and the organization, but at the same time, if you tell a player even before the start of the season that he’s not going to play games, that’s is difficult. It’s not going to work. I can not do anything about it. That’s how it happened”.

Upon arrival, Montrezl Harrell therefore chose to join his former teammate James Harden at the Sixers. For its part, Boston responded by signing Noah Vonleh the next day, then getting their hands on Blake Griffin a month later.
