After the Pelicans on Tuesday (victory), the Lakers faced the Mavericks this Friday, with a view to achieving a new good deal in the race for the play-in and the playoffs. In the meantime, however, an unfortunate defeat occurred in Houston, without Anthony Davis (physically preserved), making this duel at home a test not to be missed.
The good news for Los Angelesis that “AD” (26 points, 10 rebounds) was this time very present against dallas, who for his part had to compose without Luka Doncic, still injured in the thigh. Leaving Kyrie Irving (38 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists) as the sole master on board — or almost — of the Texas ship.
Under these conditions, it was the Mavs who achieved THE shot of the evening, with this success acquired at the buzzer (111-110) on a 3-point Maxi Kléber !
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
— Dallas’ Big Shot. Almost three weeks from the end of the regular season, the Mavericks are back in 6th place in the Western Conference, taking advantage of the defeats of the Warriors and Wolves to sign a breakthrough in the standings and climb behind the Clippers. Obviously, nothing is fixed and everything could move very quickly given the differences, but this success is in any case synonymous with a very good deal for the Texans, who ensure the “tiebreaker” against the Lakers. Lakers still 10th and who have not finished shaking by April 9.
— Los Angeles can harbor regrets. Devastated at the buzzer, the Lakers will undoubtedly ruminate for some time on their failed end to the game, where they still led by 4 points with 50 seconds remaining and where they were not able to convert the slightest shot in the three last minutes. An unfortunate crack that occurred when Darvin Ham’s men seemed to have done the hardest part between the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth, notably erasing a 14-point deficit. But this inability to kill the game in the “money time” is very, very expensive on arrival, just like their 19/31 in throws…
TOPS/FLOPS
✅ Dallas 3-point address. Like this last long-distance missile from Maxi Kleber, the Mavericks had a great night behind the arc, as they finished 16/34 from afar. The finding is also quite difficult to see for the Lakers, who posted an ugly 5/20 in the exercise. A 3-point difference for the less decisive in the outcome of this match.
✅ The Los Angeles Bench. Darvin Ham continues to rely on a nine-man rotation at the end of the season and, tonight, his substitutes ensured. From Dennis Schröder (15 points, 5 assists) to Wenyen Gabriel (9 points, 11 rebounds), via Austin Reaves (16 points, 5 rebounds) and Rui Hachimura (10 points), these are the four members of the ” Californian second unit, which proved to be invaluable in different sequences of the game, just to be more impactful overall than the Dallas bench.
⛔ D’Angelo Russell. The Lakers point guard certainly finished in a double-double (11 points, 11 assists), but he also suffered a lot in defense in front of Kyrie Irving and sprayed on the shoot (5/17, including 0/6 at 3-points…), as he lacked a reliable offensive second option behind Anthony Davis. The role he was supposed to hold and assume, while LeBron James was still missing for Los Angeles.
⛔ Tim Hardaway Jr.. The collective of the Mavericks was generally up to the task, but “THJ” was undoubtedly one of the most in difficulty coming off the bench, struggling to find success in shooting (4/12, including 1/5 to 3 -points) and establish himself as the lieutenant of Kyrie Irving, without Luka Doncic. Maybe he needed to get his rhythm back, after missing Dallas’ last game with calf discomfort.
