Lakers – Blazers: Carmelo Anthony Davis, the two-headed monster | NBA

After three defeats in a row, the Lakers return to success by winning 99-94 against the Blazers for their reunion with their public. As expected, LeBron James is not there, but his teammates took the match by the right end with Anthony Davis at the finish, Russell Westbrook for the creation, and especially Carmelo Anthony, who quickly came into play. The veteran is served ideally , and it was he who made the difference in the first quarter (28-16).

The sequel will be less glorious. The fault of a fiery Norman Powell, and a fighting Jusuf Nurkic under the panels, but also very skilful from afar. The Lakers, as often this year, stop running, and at the buzzer, on catch-and-shoot, Norman Powell brings the Blazers back to -1 (54-53).

Back from the locker room, CJ McCollum wakes up and the Blazers walk past. The back of the Blazers combines perfectly with Jusuf Nurkic, and the Lakers are forced to run after the score, and after Anfernee Simons who imposes his tempo. Davis has nothing to be ashamed of, but he needs a helping hand. It was finally “Melo” who came out of his box to plant a 3-pointer but Dennis Smith Jr, still at the buzzer, allowed Portland to attack the last quarter with a three-point lead (75-72).

The Crypto.com Arena is obviously tense but “Melo”, again, frees it with an alley-oop on a Westbrook caviar. The Lakers have found momentum, and it is Talen Horton-Tucker who play the X factors in the distribution of the game, and the address from afar (88-83). As Avery Bradley steals ball after ball, every basket is worth a lot, and the end of the game turns into a Powell-Davis duel. The back of the Blazers is unleashed, but Davis answers him! The coaches use each time-out to find the flaw.

The Blazers do not bother and they go coast-to-coast. Opposite, Malik Monk misses two precious shots, but it is Davis, again him, who pulls off a new offensive rebound to free his teammates and the whole room. It was not always very controlled but the Lakers won 99-94.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– Robert Covington close to Josh Giddey. Career passing record for Robert Covington who comes close to double-double without scoring a single point. Only two players have achieved this performance in history, and the latest is the Thunder rookie.

– LeBron James remains in care. Officially, LeBron James suffers from an irritation in his left knee, which causes him to swell. The Lakers aren’t worried, and the Lakers superstar’s status is day-to-day. It will probably be too short for the derby tonight against the Clippers, but he could therefore return on Saturday night against the Knicks.

– Lost bullets. The Lakers drop 16 balls that the Blazers turned into 24 points. Conversely, the Lakers only scored one run on stray balls from the Blazers.

TOPS/FLOPS

✅ Anthony Davis. A full match for the All-Star interior, so important in the “money time” to meet Norman Powell. We saw him limp in the first quarter and of course we were worried. But his big last quarter reassures, and his slaughter on the offensive rebound confirms that he is not afraid to go into contact.

✅ Carmelo Anthony. Quickly entered the game, Melo delivered one of his best matches of the season. So easy at half distance, he also hurt a lot from distance with a 5 of 6 from 3-pointers. It was he, in the first quarter, who held the house when Anthony Davis joined the bench.

✅ Norman Powell. We had not seen him so dashing for a long time! He made Russell Westbrook take off his shorts, and shook the whole room in the “money time”. The most consistent of the Blazers tonight.

Malik Monk. Apart from a nice dunk in the heart of the defense on a caviar from Wetsbrook, he had a very complicated evening. Still behind Powell, he finished 2 out of 10 on shots.
