It’s no big surprise, but The Athletic does inform us that the divorce between Kyrie Irving and Nike is now on. A logical decision given the previous episodes between the two camps and after the controversy that has surrounded the player in recent weeks.
A month ago, the comma brand suspended its contract with the Nets playmaker, explaining in a press release that “cAt Nike, we believe that there is no place for hate speech and we condemn all forms of anti-Semitism”.
Then, a few days later, it was Phil Knight, the big boss of Nike, who announced the upcoming divorce. “I doubt that we will go back”he said. “Kyrie crossed the red line. It’s as simple as that. He has made statements that we simply cannot tolerate and that is why we have ended our relationship. I was okay with that. »
So it’s now official. The 2016 champion, whose Nike pairs were very popular, is therefore a free agent and free to engage with any brand. A question now arises: will the other shoe brands rush to offer him a partnership or will the fall controversy especially cool them?
One thing is certain, Irving continues to play in Nike and he still wore his signature model Sunday night against Boston.
