Khris Middleton gives up $40 million to become a ‘free agent’

At almost 32 years old, Khris Middleton has therefore decided to give up on his “player option” at 40 million dollars for the next campaign, in order to get the last big contract of his career.

Will the winger stay in Milwaukee, where he has been playing for ten years? According to ESPN, the possibility is real and it makes sense as Khris Middleton is Giannis Antetokounmpo’s lieutenant, his marksmanship complementing the strengths of the ‘Greek Freak’. Additionally, he was involved in the search for Mike Budenholzer’s replacement, Adrian Griffin.

The problem may be the timing for the 39th choice of the 2012 Draft. Plagued by a sprained knee during the 2022 playoffs, he also had wrist surgery in stride, missing the first twenty games of the campaign .

A campaign marked by recurring knee problems, which forced him to have surgery as soon as the season ended after having played only 33 games, for stats in sharp decline: 15.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists on average, at 44% shooting success including 32% at 3-points.

Under these conditions, can he recover a salary of 40 million dollars per year, or does he rather bet on a less remunerative contract annually, but longer? And above all, will it always be in Milwaukee?
