Germany get scared against Montenegro

After the completely crazy match between France and Turkey, Slovenia suffered more than we had imagined against Belgium and it was a bit the same scenario between Germany and Montenegro.

Dennis Schröder and his comrades started however very largely favorites, especially at home, and the impression was confirmed in the first half, that the Mannschaft finished at +24 (48-24). The gap will even go up to +27 when they return from the locker room, and we say to ourselves that the locals will quietly slip away in the quarter-finals.

Except that the result will be much less simple for the troupe of Gordie Herbert. Montenegro pulls a good old zone out of the drawer and starts putting in some 3-point shots.

Nothing very worrying, Germany attacking the last quarter at +17 (67-50) but the “momentum” has changed sides, in a room in Berlin which is losing its voice. The naturalized Kendrick Perry then caught fire and the Mannschaft sweated, especially when Montenegro came back to 5 points (69-64) with more than 7 minutes on the clock…

Franz Wagner’s ankle having turned upstream, Dennis Schröder, author of a big “poster” a little earlier, finds himself a little alone to relaunch his training and avoid disaster.

What the (always) “free agent” will nevertheless do, generating enough points, despite the waste, to keep his team safe. Montenegro will however come back to three points (80-77) with 24 seconds remaining, but Maodo Lo ensures the throws and Germany is doing (85-79) for a success much more complicated than expected.

In the quarter-finals, Dennis Schröder & Co. will meet the winner of the match Greece – Czech Republic.
