After almost a month of competition without a win, the Nets are finally moving forward. Deprived of their remodeled “Big Three” (Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons), New Yorkers can thank two of the three rookies from Philadelphia who did not miss their debut, against the Kings we had experienced more dashing since the arrival of Domantas Sabonis.
Never led in this part, the Nets quickly took advantage of the address of Seth Curry, as well as the activity of Bruce Brown, to score 35 points in the first quarter and afford ten units of lead (35-24). With an inspired De’Aaron Fox in the second quarter, the Kings were able to reduce this gap a little at the break (55-48).
Still unable to control Seth Curry on the outside, the visitors experienced big air holes in their inner defense, which Andre Drummond took advantage of to dunk on several occasions. The locals resumed their distance to the score (80-66) before starting a final period where they were not really worried more.
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– Brooklyn knows how to defend. 118 points, the average points conceded by the Nets on their series of 11 consecutive defeats. In crisis in this sector, the New Yorkers reacted by simply signing their best defensive performance of the season. They displayed this seriousness throughout the evening, especially in the second half when the Californians, limited to 34% success in the match, scored only 37 points. – The Kings’ airballs. While the Nets have continued to show their enthusiasm, linked to the arrival of the former 76ers and the turn of events in this part, the Kings, themselves, looked gray. Symbol of this dark evening, especially in terms of address, the sending of several “airball” 3-pointers by Californian rookies, Domantas Sabonis and Donte DiVincenzo.
TOPS/FLOPS
✅ Bruce Brown. A constant activity! The “role player” had the biggest game time of the game because of his qualities of “slasher” as well as his intelligence of the game. Best passer of the match, he behaved like a plague in defense with five interceptions and three cons!
✅ Seth Curry. He who had not exceeded the 20 points mark for a month has made a successful debut with his new team. In addition to converting with his outside shot, the fullback was active in rebounding and creating to sign one of his most complete matches of the year.
✅ LaMarcus Aldridge and Andre Drummond. Nice evening for the two interiors who behaved rather well in defense, like the huge counter of the former 76er in front of Richaun Holmes who wanted to dunk. A bit of waste in attack with five lost balls for the first or an impossible pass attempt in the back for the second, but they both assured the finish, each in their own style.
⛔ Domantas Sabonis. We could have mentioned all of the Kings’ five majors (except for De’Aaron Fox) but the Lithuanian best illustrated their difficulties in finishing, especially in front of LaMarcus Aldridge. End of series for him who remained on eight consecutive double-doubles.
BEN SIMMONS ON THE BENCH
For the first time this season, Ben Simmons sat on the bench for his team. Not that of the 76ers therefore, but of the Nets. Appeared smiling and relaxed, the Australian had participated in the shooting session of the Nets, in the morning, in the company of Kevin Durant in particular.
