Doug West joins Nick Nurse’s staff in Philadelphia

Two weeks ago, Nick Nurse explained that he was still in the process of refining the contours of his own staff, before being able to fully tackle the workforce (we think of the Tobias Harris file for example and especially the extension of James Harden’s contract).

This is confirmed with the announcement, by the Philadelphia Inquirerthe arrival of Doug West within the staff of the Sixers.

The former Villanova player knew the NBA as a player for almost a decade in Minnesota (from 1989 to 1998), before moving on to coaching, under the orders of Hall of Famer Jay Wright in particular, and then with Nick Nurse at the Rios. Grande Valley Vipers (in 2012-13) in the G-League.

Doug West coached at a high school

Since leaving the Rockets-affiliated franchise in 2015, Doug West had returned home to Altoona High School after a brief one-season stint at Penn State. Coach in a high school and in a local YMCA, he obviously agreed to return to work at the highest level.

You should know that Doug West is a local legend in Philadelphia, a member of the “Big Five Hall of Fame” (the Hall of Fame of the five big local universities), after a four-season career at Villanova, averaging 15 points.

With Bobby Jackson and Rico Hines already recruited, Doug West reinforces the presence of former pro players alongside Nick Nurse. The latter had already done so in Toronto, with Earl Watson and Adrian Griffin, the new head coach of the Bucks.
