Despite 39 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder fall to the Pacers

This trip to Indianapolis could allow the Thunder to take a three-game lead over the Mavericks in the race for the Top 10 in the Western Conference. A golden opportunity, especially since Oklahoma City found Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Pacers had to do without Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner…

Except that all players in the NBA are competitors, and when they’re on the court, they want to win.

Mark Daigneault’s players have experienced this against Indiana, who therefore won behind a great TJ McConnell (21 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists) and a collective in tune. The Thunder never managed to make the necessary stops to take control of the game.

WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER

– Attacking the circle. The Thunder clearly lack shooters, and when Isaiah Joe is 0/8 from afar, the whole team suffers (4/30…) from afar. Opposite, the Pacers were not very skillful either (12/41) and the two teams therefore mainly scored points by attacking the opposing circle. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his troupe are some of the best in the business, but they lack a bully under their own circle…

– The swing at the end of the third quarter. Mark Daigneault spoke about it at a press conference because it is undoubtedly the key to the match for OKC. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his troop thus seemed to take control of the match, rising to +10 (91-81) in the last three minutes of the third quarter. Thanks to TJ McConnell, the Pacers came back to 4 points (94-90) to end the quarter. And gain momentum for the end.

– Very bad operation for Oklahoma City. By beating the Pacers, the Thunder would therefore have taken a three-game lead (with four games to play) over Dallas. With this defeat, OKC therefore remains within reach of the Mavericks.

TOPS/FLOPS

✅ TJ McConnell. All teams probably dream of having a TJ McConnell in their ranks. Always a substitute, despite the absence of Tyrese Haliburton, the elf was magnificent in energy, brushing with the triple-double and notably relaunching the Pacers when the Thunder seemed to take control of the match.

✅ Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Back, he did Shai Gilgeous-Alexander by continuously attacking the circle to score or cause fouls. However, he needs the Thunder to surround him with more shooters to benefit from more space. And make his life easier offensively.

⛔ Isaiah Joe. He’s the only real shooter in Oklahoma City. So when he is 0/8 from a distance, it disrupts his team’s entire offensive machine.
