Dennis Scott to be inducted into Magic Hall of Fame

Born in 1989, the Orlando Magic has the particularity of never having retired a jersey! Whether it’s the Shaq, Penny Hardaway or Tracy McGrady, no jersey hangs from the ceiling of the room. On the other hand, the franchise has set up a Hall Of Fame to distinguish leaders, coaches and players, and it has just announced that Dennis Scott would be the 12th to be inducted there, at a date still unknown.

“Dennis (Scott) remains one of the best shooters by far in Orlando Magic and NBA history,” said Alex Martins, the franchise’s deputy chairman. “His ability to shoot 3-pointers played a major role in our success during his time in Orlando and his records still stand. We are proud to have Dennis the next inductee into the Orlando Magic Hall Of Fame. »

Drafted in 1990, Scott played seven years in the Magic, and he was part of the team that reached the Finals in 1995. The following year, he set an NBA record with 267 3-pointers in a season. A record that will stand for 10 years. The same year, he planted 11 3-pointers in one game, and this NBA record would remain untouched for seven years. This is still a franchise record, and it still holds the highest number of 3-pointers scored by an Orlando player (981).

The Magic created its Hall Of Fame in 2014, and the first two inductees were co-owner Pat Williams and Nick Anderson, the team’s first drafted player. Next inducted were Shaquille O’Neal (2015), Rich DeVos (2016), Anfernee Hardaway (2017), Jimmy Hewitt (2017), Tracy McGrady (2018), David Steele (2019), Darrell Armstrong (2020), John Gabriel (2022) and Brian Hill (2022).
