Still just as metronomic, despite the injuries that have marred his career, Kevin Durant has just entered the Top 10 best scorers in NBA history.
Above all, the Suns winger continues to display incredible shooting efficiency. Last season, he joined the 50-40-90 club (50% shooting success, 40% 3-point success, 90% shooting) for the second time in his career, after 2012/13 . He even became the first player in history in 55-40-90!
Can he do even better this season? After 19 matches played, the 35-year-old basketball player has a 52.1% overall success rate, 50% on 3-pointers and 89.2% on free throws. With two more free throw successes, he would be at 50-50-90, averages that no one has ever posted over an entire NBA season. Alone Steve Kerr had surpassed them in 1995/96 (with a closer 3-point line) but his performance is actually not counted because he had not attempted enough free throws over the season.
Obviously, it will still be very complicated for Kevin Durant to maintain such averages until the end of the year but if any player can do it, it’s him…
Note also that, for the moment, the only player to really be in the 50-40-90 club at the start of the season, taking into account the minimum attempts, is Karl-Anthony Towns. The Wolves strong winger thus achieved 51% overall success, 42.6% on 3-pointers and 90.2% on free throws over the first twenty matches.
