Atlanta extends De’Andre Hunter for $95 million

Extension to the “buzzer” as Adrian Wojnarowski says. According to the latter, as well as The Athletic, De’Andre Hunter and the Hawks agreed to a four-year, $95 million contract extension, or an average annual salary of $24 million. The two parties had until 6 p.m. (12 a.m. in France) on Monday to reach an agreement. The Athletic says $90 million is guaranteed.

A great reward for the 24-year-old who has not been spared injuries since joining the league. Last year, the winger had shot 13 points per game, a slightly lower average compared to the previous season, but where he had played only twenty games.

However, he stood out by signing his best career 3-point success percentage (38%) and by finishing above all as the top scorer in his training, during the playoff series lost to the Heat with 21 points on average. ESPN recalls that he had exploded in Game 5 playoffs with 35 points and 11 rebounds, becoming the third player in franchise history to post such a double-double in the playoffs for 50 years.

4th choice of the 2019 Draft, he becomes the 11th player of this selection to sign a contract extension this summer, along with Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, RJ Barrett, Darius Garland, Tyler Herro, Brandon Clarke, Nassir Little, Jordan Poole , Keldon Johnson and Kevin Porter Jr.

The Hawks thus confirm their desire for continuity around their hard core of players, Trae Young, John Collins or Clint Capela, all linked to the club for several years. And to which Dejounte Murray must now integrate. The former Spur and De’Andre Hunter are expected to provide defensive safeguards to the Atlanta five.
