A big Victor Wembanyama effect in France and around the world

The enormous start to the season, only slowed down by its complicated match against the Suns, of Victor Wembanyama was not only impressive on the court. The fans were also very attentive to the Frenchman's performances, the figures given by the NBA confirm this.

Indeed, the first Spurs game in Dallas, where “Wemby” crushed the Mavs, broadcast on the national network, was watched by 2.49 million people, or 63% more than the match, on the same date, on ESPN last year.

In addition, the Texans' third match of the season, against Brooklyn, which was in prime time (8:00 p.m.) on Sunday October 26, was the most watched on League Pass in France for two years!

No player generates more views on social media

Furthermore, registrations for the League Pass have increased by 54% this season in France compared to last season, announces the Grande Ligue. Which is also explained, perhaps, by the small delay (the first evening less) in broadcasting the NBA on beIN Sports, which pushed fans to register to be sure not to miss anything.

In terms of social networks, Victor Wembanyama has generated 227 million views on NBA social networks since the start of the season. And no player does better, or even exceeds 200 million!

To go even further in this 2025/26 financial year which has just started, we can note that the Spurs All-Star is the player who generates the most views on NBA social networks in Europe and also in Asia. On the X account (ex-Twitter) of NBA France for example, 16 of the 20 most commented posts concern “Wemby”, while on the NBA Europe YouTube channelfive of the ten most viewed videos this season refer to the Spurs player.
