Zack Britton would be in the crosshairs of the Angels

In recent weeks, we have often heard rumors that linked Zack Britton to the New York Mets. After all, the reliever knows Buck Showalter, the club’s manager, well from their time with the Orioles.

But he is not the only manager of the Majors to know him. In recent years, Phil Nevin (manager of the Angels) has worked in the Bronx.

Does this explain the rumors sending Britton to Anaheim? I do not know.

But one thing is certain: the Angels are named in the filing as a team that would be interested in adding him to the bullpen.

The problem? Over the past two years, Britton has pitched less than 20 total innings in MLB. He is no longer a certainty as before and his Tommy John operation is not necessarily the greatest success.

Is the bet worth it for the Angels, who still need relievers? The reality is that it depends on the price.

Right now, Britton is thought to be asking for as much as $9 million, which is a risk for a guy who pitched 0.2 innings in 2022 and may not be healthy.

But if the price drops, the Angels will be there.

  • Nearly $10 million for Gleyber Torres.
  • Replacing a guy like Dansby Swanson won’t be easy.
  • Roberto Perez in San Francisco.
  • The Orioles think they can make the playoffs.
