Xander Bogaerts felt the Padres wanted to win more

He is not the first and will certainly not be the last to say that the Boston Red Sox are not doing everything in their power to equip themselves with the right elements to stay in the race within a very competitive division.

Following the signing of a lucrative contract with the San Diego Padres, Xander Bogaerts fired an arrow at his former bosses saying he felt his new team wanted to win more. We suspect that his remarks refer to the last years spent in Boston.

Bogaerts’ departure hurts as Red Sox fans have yet to digest Mookie Betts, who moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020, much to everyone’s surprise.

David Ortiz, a former Red Sox, now a member of the Hall of Fame, had argued in favor of a new alliance between the shortstop player and the formation of Massachusetts, but we know the rest.

Recall that Bogaerts signed an 11-year agreement valued at $280 million with the Padres, who will have a formidable offense when Fernando Tatis Jr. returns to the lineup following his suspension.

With the addition of Bogaerts, Padres management couldn’t be clearer about their desire to win and earn top honors. At the last trade deadline, the California team had made another big move by trading with the Washington Nationals, thus securing the services of Juan Soto.

The presence of Soto, Manny Machado and Tatis Jr. certainly prompted Xander Bogaerts to choose the Padres over the Red Sox, who were stripped of another star player.

During the press briefing aimed at introducing him to his new supporters, Bogaerts also mentioned that the negotiations with the Padres had been effective. Another proof that his relationship with the management of the Red Sox had been standing still for a long time.

Speaking of Red Sox management, Chaim Bloom isn’t worried about people’s comments, but clearly fans are dissatisfied.

The offer that the Red Sox would have filed to retain Bogaerts in Boston was much lower than that of the Padres. The Boston proposal was for $160 million for a period of six years.

The new Padres concluded by saying his new team’s roster reminded him of the 2018 World Series champion Red Sox.
