Triston Casas: the Marlins would like to compromise to acquire him

Looking at the current state of play at the Boston Red Sox, there seems to be a changing of the guard on the horizon. After the departures of Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers’ future in town looks pretty hazy and Chris Sale could be traded for the right price.

The core of the 2018 champion team is already starting to look distant…

That said, however, there are great projects within the organization. Marcelo Mayer is the team’s best hope, but in the shorter term Triston Casas looks set to contribute this year.

Now, here we learn from the Miami Herald that the Miami Marlins would have a strong interest in acquiring the young first baseman.

Casas didn’t enjoy much success during his brief spell in the Major Leagues last year, but let’s say this one weighs far less in the balance than his huge success in the minor leagues. The young hitter may eventually become a good stick in the middle of the lineup, which is of interest to teams.

But Boston needs young starting pitchers with years of control, and Miami has plenty of them. Sandy Alcantara won’t budge, but the Red Sox could get a guy like Pablo Lopez, Edward Cabrera or Trevor Rogers in return.

Without necessarily being pitching aces, we are talking about guys who have a good track record in their young career and who could solidify the rotation in the short and long term.

Always according to Miami Heraldthe Red Sox would also be interested in Joey Wendle, a contact hitter who swings from the left and can play almost anywhere in the infield.

Anyway, there seems to be talks going on, and a deal sending Casas to Miami in return for Wendle and a young starter isn’t impossible. It remains to be seen whether the two teams will find common ground by the start of the next season.
