the Rays still don’t know why the plan died

A few weeks ago, when MLB announced that it had nipped the shared custody plan in the bud, everyone wondered why the decision was made. No one got an answer.

Even Stuart Sternberg (the owner of the Rays) and Stephen Bronfman, who headed the project, were unresponsive.

Obviously, this does not allow to have good feedback to know if the project was simply a victim of circumstances (COVID-19, work stoppage in baseball, etc.) or if the main actors of the project did something of badness.

And according to the Rays owner’s comments this week, he still hasn’t heard back from his counterparts on other teams a few weeks after the news broke.

Sternberg is still told that “it was a board decision” when he asks for an explanation. He doesn’t know any more.

The problem? His stadium project in Tampa isn’t the greatest in town, and he’s not the most iNFLuential owner in the sports world. He is therefore not in a position to demand explanations loud and clear. He just has to turn the page.

He is moving forward with his new stadium project, therefore. The club is looking at options in the Tampa Bay area and it remains to be seen what will be the best place for the club’s future, but the talks aren’t ugly.

Will this result in anything concrete? It still remains to be seen and big doubts still remain, of course.
