That’s it: the Blue Jays will play at home over the weekend.
Thanks to a win over the Baltimore Orioles and a Mariners loss to the Detroit Tigers, the Jays are guaranteed to play at home Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if there is a game.
The Jays’ last home game was in 2016.
It is not yet known whether the Mariners or the Rays will be in town. Right now, the Mariners (87-72, three games left) are the favorites. They have three more games on the schedule until tomorrow against the Tigers.
The Rays are 1.5 games behind the Mariners. They have two games left in Boston and they’re 86-74 right now.
In the event of a tie, the Rays will have the advantage.
The Jays will face the club with the best record between Seattle and Tampa Bay and the other club will travel to Cleveland to play, also on Friday, a 2-of-3.
The club that wins the series in Toronto will win the right to go to Houston for the division series and the one that wins the series in Cleveland will go face the Yankees in the Bronx.
Note therefore that the Mariners and Rays could not play at home in the playoffs if they do not win a single round.
As the Blue Jays can’t finish anywhere but fourth in the All-American, expect the club not to play its regulars today and tomorrow, in order to rest them well for the playoffs.
