Several people would be interested in buying the Rays

Even though Rays owner Stuart Sternberg has said he has no intention of selling his club, the fact remains that right now there is demand for the Tampa Bay club.

According to The Athletic, several people would be interested in buying the Rays.

What’s special is that there are local interests (in what I remind you is not an absolute sale process since the owner intends to keep his club) and people who want to get the Rays out from Tampa.

Recall that at this time, Mr. Sternberg is working to finance a new stadium in St. Pete, where the Rays are currently playing, or in Tampa Bay.

Dan Doyle Jr. is the outside investor who wants to keep the club in Tampa.

That said, there would also be people who would like to convince the owner to sell them the Rays in order to move them.

Ken Rosenthal, in his paper, did not name a city. We therefore do not know if an investor from Montreal is part of the lot, but we can think not.

But we know that investors from other cities interested in having a club have approached the Rays. For what? Because the club is interesting.

As long as you pay at least $2 billion for an expansion club, you might as well buy the Rays (with a little extra to convince them to move), right?

A club in first place is attractive.

Unlike the A’s, the Rays want to stay put and the commissioner still thinks we’re talking about a good baseball market. That’s the big difference with Oakland.

In the short term, I don’t expect the Rays to be sold to interests that don’t want to keep the club in Tampa. But if the plan to build a stadium in Tampa falls apart… well, that could change.

  • The stars of the Mets pitched well yesterday.
  • Corey Kluber is not having a good season.
