Red Sox: Tanner Houck is in demand

The Boston Red Sox didn’t have the offseason that fans were expecting, far from it. And even if there is a little more than a month left before the start of the preseason games, no one believes that the Bas Rouges will solve all their shortcomings, in order to be competitive.

But that shouldn’t prevent them from adding a few pieces that will do them great service, including at the shortstop position.

This could go through a trade involving right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck, who is attracting the attention of several MLB teams.

Some organizations that have inquired about the availability of Miami Marlins gunners, including Pablo Lopez, have also done so with the Sox for Houck, since the market for pitchers with years of control is thin right now.

Since his debut in the 2020 campaign, the 26-year-old has proven to be a valuable member of the Red Sox’s pitching staff, one of the team’s only reliable arms. Houck posted a 3.02 ERA in the 146 innings he pitched in the big leagues, both as a starter and in the bullpen.

As the latter is not eligible for the free agent market before the 2027 season, the asking price to acquire his services will be high.

A deal with the San Diego Padres to land shortstop Ha-Seong Kim could be on the cards.
