The Boston Red Sox made a few acquisitions this offseason, but nothing to write home about his mother.
However, the Boston team hopes that one of them can make up for the loss of JD Martinez, both on and off the pitch. This is Justin Turner.
On the freshly cut grass, Turner will play much the same role as Martinez, hitting in the middle of the lineup and making sporadic defensive appearances.
But it is above all off the pitch that the Bas Rouges want to see the redhead take the place of Martinez, and even surpass the latter’s contribution. And at this level, manager Alex Cora believes in his new protege.
JT is a very good player. And he was the leader of that group in Los Angeles for a while. I hate to compare situations, but this feels like what happened in 2018, bringing JD into this group. And with Turner here, it’s the same thing. You can only see the similarities by talking to him and having conversations with him about approaches and preparation.
Kiké Hernández, who played with Turner in Los Angeles from 2015 to 2020 and with Martinez in Boston for the past two years, believes the newcomer to the Sox uniform will have an even bigger impact than the one who just left.
They both prepare very well and they both have a very good idea of how to attack pitchers. I would say Turner is going to be a bit more vocal than Martinez. He’s likely to be more engaged in the game. Turner is going to talk about other things, not just how to attack pitchers.
Boston will badly need a leader of Turner’s caliber, they who will surely experience another difficult season. A presence like this in the dugout and in the locker room can only help the young people of the organization grow.
