Rangers still consider signing Carlos Rodon (even after Jacob deGrom’s arrival)

If there is one player who should be happy with Jacob deGrom’s contract, it’s Carlos Rodon. Why? Because the clubs that want a big pitcher no longer have many options (Justin Verlander and Rodon), but also because fromGoat drove up prices.

The prices were already high, but good.

Rodon must look at this and tell himself that the clubs are going to have to pull out the checkbook to attract him. Whether it is deserved or not, these are the market prices… and we sometimes speak of $35 million per year for Rodon, who is younger than Jacob deGrom.

The Mets, precisely, are a possibility for him, just like the Yankees. The Giants (his club of 2022) and the Dodgers are in on it.

In fact, no less than eight teams would be in the lot.

And on that, Rangers would still be a possibility for him. Despite signing deGrom, the club are reportedly still hungry.

We already knew he was a big target for Rangers, but one wondered how much the signing of deGrom would change things.

Recall that the Rangers, last year, signed Marcus Semien, but that did not prevent them from attracting Corey Seager.

The same principle could apply here… provided you are prepared to see them pay close to a billion dollars for four guys.

But in fact, we can think so. The club needs to sign pitchers and while we wait, might as well do it now, right? After all, the club won’t want to wait for Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker to come and win.
