Padres send Dodgers on vacation

Despite the fact that 22 games separated the two teams in the West Division standings at the conclusion of the regular season, the San Diego Padres got rid of the Los Angeles Dodgers quite easily by beating their rivals in four games.

Yesterday’s game ended in a 5-3 result favoring the Padres.

After losing in the opening game of this series, Bob Melvin’s men won the next three, including the last two at home.

Trailing by three in the seventh inning, the Padres scored five runs in that same inning, securing a move to the next round where they will face the Philadelphia Phillies, who defeated the Atlanta Braves.

A very surprising championship series in the National, while few observers were expecting these two teams.

The Padres have the fifth-highest payroll in 2022, but they just eliminated the teams that occupy the top two ranks in this regard, the Mets and the Dodgers.

By eliminating the Dodgers, the Padres reach the National Championship Series for the first time in 24 years.

Jake Cronenworth was the hero of his team by hitting a good single for two against reliever Alex Vesia. Starters Joe Musgrove and Tyler Anderson got the job done even though they weren’t involved in the decision. Josh Hader saved a third game on the winning side.

Freddie Freeman was the best of his team on offense as he drove in two runs on three hits in four appearances. On the Padres side, almost everyone contributed to the win, as only Brandon Drury and Wil Myers failed to get the ball to safety.

Since the franchise’s birth in 1969, the Padres have always been in the shadow of the Dodgers, but yesterday the sun began to shine for the team’s fans who had been waiting for this moment.

This season, the Dodgers have won all six series against their West Coast rivals. Yesterday’s result proves how well the sport is played on the court and that the stats accumulated in the regular season no longer hold water in the playoffs.

The championship series against the Phillies gets underway Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Padres’ home in San Diego.
