Marlins: Johnny Cueto’s signing opens the door to a transaction

After a very quiet start to the offseason, the Miami Marlins could steal the show by spring camp. This is what seems to be taking shape on the horizon, starting with the signing that took place last night.

Indeed, on Monday evening, the Marlins and veteran Johnny Cueto came to an agreement of one year and one year of option for a guaranteed amount of money of 8.5 million dollars.

This therefore means that the Florida formation has a lot of depth within its starting rotation. Currently, seven gunners can fill this role, in addition to prospects Eury Pérez, Jake Eder and Dax Fulton who continue to progress through the minor ranks.

The acquisition of Cueto also confirms the theory that the Marlins will trade their surplus starting pitchers in exchange for a bit of offense, a crying need that will allow them to lay the foundations of a formidable team in the future.

With the exception of Sandy Alcantara, no one is untouchable in Miami and a pact with a formation seeking a quality arm is increasingly imminent. It may even be a matter of hours, or at most days.

Cueto will build an insurance policy for the Marlins, who have a young pitching staff with a history of injuries, and give them the leeway to address needs through trades.

It remains to be seen who will be sacrificed and leave the hot Florida sun.
