Marcus Stroman was the victim of racist remarks in New York

Colleague Raphaël Simard reported to you yesterday how happy Marcus Stroman was to leave the New York Mets organization.

The team’s decisions about hiring Billy Eppler as the team’s new general manager seemed to be at the heart of his decision to leave…

But there was more than that at stake, it seems.

On his Twitter account, Stroman said Mets fans sent racist comments and death threats to him while he was playing in New York.

Nothing less.

We agree that this comes into play when the time comes to make a decision about your future. When you show up at the stadium knowing that you’re going to be yelled at, it’s not too motivating.

Especially when it’s your own followers who do this. And I don’t think I need to tell you that it just has no place in sports.

But, you know like me that there are things that don’t change in everyday life…

In Chicago, Marcus Stroman has the opportunity to indulge in a fresh start that can only do him good. Whether his performance on the mound will be affected remains to be seen.
