Justin Verlander is progressing well towards a return to the game

Despite a rocky start to the season, things are going better for the New York Mets these days, even though they have lost their last two games.

They currently find themselves just half a game behind the Atlanta Braves and first place in the National League East. However, the latter have had a much more favorable schedule than the representatives of Queens so far.

And it could go even better for the Mets, as their ace pitcher, Justin Verlander, is progressing well toward a one-game return. Indeed, the veteran right-hander threw 43 in three innings of work during a practice session at Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Manager Buck Showalter then confirmed that his protege is feeling fine and will be able to pitch in a minor league game on Friday.

A first start in MLB in 2023 will then be considered and it could be somewhere during the Mets’ trip, probably in Detroit.

Let’s move further south now, where we can hear the same story with the Houston Astros. Like Verlander, Jose Altuve is recovering well from his broken thumb. A return to play, however, will not be as hasty as the Mets pitcher, but everything is pointing in the right direction.

With the injured gradually returning to the top teams and with the schedule balancing out as the season progresses, we will return to a portrait of the standings that will make a lot more sense than the one that is happening right now. .

We are only in April.
