Gleyber Torres must be sacrificed for a left fielder

It must have been since 1902 (I’m hardly exaggerating) that we hear that the second baseman of the New York Yankees, Gleyber Torres, is in the trade market.

It might be time for the rumors to turn into reality and for Torres to be sacrificed in favor of a REAL left fielder.

For what?

First of all, because Torres takes precious playing time from Oswald Peraza and it is not by remaining on the bench that the youngster will progress.

Plus, the Bronx Bombers’ infield is overflowing with players who can do the job. Even the unloved Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Josh Donaldson can take a few turns at third base. However, these have no market value.

Finally, and above all, because the Yankees’ outfield is sorely lacking in depth, particularly on the left. The production of the New York outfielders, with the exception of Aaron Judge of course, has been abysmal since the start of the season and Kiner-Falefa is a public danger at positions seven and eight.

Yes, Harrison Bader is back, but it’s not him who will change everything in the offensive lineup, being mainly recognized for his defensive excellence.

All that to say, the sacrificial lamb must be Torres, and the personnel move must be done quickly by general manager Brian Cashman. Now is not the time to sit back and watch other clubs get a head start in the standings and then come back empty-handed in September.

Will remain to find a dance partner to complete a transaction. A pact like the one between the Miami Marlins and the Minnesota Twins for the services of Luis Arraez and Pablo Lopez should be considered.

Go Brian!
