George Springer: Elbow surgery is on the table

The Blue Jays season has (dramatically) ended in the circumstances that we know. With the loss in two games against the Mariners, the club must recover.

But above all, the club must prepare for the 2023 season.

First, the first file of the club will be to decide the future of the interim manager, John Schneider. The club likes what the manager has brought in 2022, even if some decisions have been disputed.

In his defense, the Jays’ bullpen isn’t the deepest and some decisions aren’t optimal, but they’re still needed.

All that to say that Ross Atkins, in a press conference, said he had not yet decided the fate of Schneider, but he did not see why he would not be back.

He’s going to “have a hard time finding a better option,” to use his words.

I fully expect to see him back. After all, he was appreciated and I don’t think the club want to lose him either.

In the DG’s press conference, one point that was discussed was the case of George Springer. The center fielder suffered, unsurprisingly, a concussion when colliding with Bo Bichette. He also hurt his shoulder.

Yesterday, he had not yet received the OK to travel, but he should return home shortly.

But above all, the outfielder will be examined to see if his elbow, which has bothered him all season, will have to be operated on. That’s yet to be seen.

But in any case, whoever wants to participate in the World Baseball Classic (to play under the colors of Puerto Rico) should be healthy at the next Jays camp.

It’s good news.

That said, in any case, the Blue Jays are going to have to add pieces to the chessboard – especially on the mound, I would tell you.

With Ross Stripling a free agent (he could return, of course), it’s going to take more than the return of Yusei Kikuchi and (possibly) Hyun-Jin Ryu to help the roster.

The club want to seek help in the rotation and in the bullpen, but no big move to change the heart of the team is on the table.

Basically, the club wants to seek consistency. The DG affirms, with good reason, that good teams manage to limit wave dips.

With a record of zero playoff wins in 2020 and 2022, the club wants to take it to the next level. But for that, the CEO will have to work hard this winter since even if the club is not far from the elite, it seems to be missing some elements.

Will he be able to find them?

  • Pete Walker got his sentence for driving while intoxicated earlier this year.
  • Reminder: there will be work at the Rogers Center this winter.
