After all the bullshit that has been done by Fernando Tatis Jr. in the past few years, I am sometimes asked if I believe in a transaction involving him.
And my answer is always the same: no.
I don’t see a club accepting to get its $340 million 14-year contract, signed just two years ago. After all, it is stock for the man he is becoming.
But it seems that there is interest around his candidacy.
In recent days, journalist Jesse Rogers claimed that an MLB executive told him he believed in a transaction involving Tatis Jr.
And this, from this winter.
I don’t know what it would cost to get him out of San Diego, but I can’t see the Padres trading him for less than the moon…and I can’t see any club paying dearly to get him.
But at the same time, the Padres are cited in the market shortstop records. We know that they like Xander Bogaerts a lot… and now we learn that Trea Turner has had two meetings with the management of the Padres.
On the one hand, I’m having trouble seeing the Padres sign a shortstop (especially Turner, who’s an Eastern guy) because of their big contracts, but also because they already have two players. shortstops (Tatis Jr. and Ha-Seong Kim).
But the Padres should never be counted out when it comes to making a splash in the market.
Remember, however, that the market for shortstops is intense, and the Padres aren’t the only ones who love Turner.
The Phillies, who will meet the four guys (Turner, Carlos Correa, Dansby Swanson and Xander Bogaerts), would be the favorites in Trea Turner’s case.
Speaking of them, note that the Twins want to do everything to keep Carlos Correa in Minnesota. The club loved the experience in 2022.
