Since the start of the season, Édouard Julien has obtained playing time in the Majors. The Quebec infielder burned through the minor leagues last year, and with Jorge Polanco missing some time, Julien had a chance to make his mark.
That said, like most young players, he’s often shuttled back and forth between MLB and AAA. With Polanco and Carlos Correa, the infield is congested in Minnesota, so Julien is mostly there when they need someone to replace an injured person.
And as Polanco was once again placed on the injured list, it allowed the Twins to recall the young Quebecer for the day’s game against the Jays. Benoît Rioux (Journal de Montréal) also got the scoop.
With Polanco expected to miss ten days, we can expect another stay of a few games for Julien with the big club. The AAA scorcher this year is still taking it easy in the Majors, but he’s already a slightly above average hitter (OPS+ of 110, while an average hitter has a OPS+ of 100).
Obviously, it’s hard for him to find a rhythm when he’s only doing brief stints in town, but considering the circumstances, his .226/.310/.452 batting line and four homers in the Majors (19 matches) are numbers that really do the job.
And the good news is that today he will have a great opportunity to show off when he hits the top spot in Toronto. I imagine that members of his entourage will have the chance to see him in action while he is quite close to home.
If you want to see him in action, the meeting will start at 3:07 p.m. today. We wish him another great stay in the Majors and, who knows, maybe a long-term place with the big club.
