Corey Seager is playing like the MVP the Rangers need

If the Texas Rangers don’t make the playoffs, it won’t be because of their middle infielders, Corey Seager and Marcus Semien.

After a more difficult 2022 season for both guys, they finally found their way. Semien has shown consistency by being healthy and playing very well…

And Seager simply plays like an MVP.

Unfortunately for him, he plays in the same league as Shohei Ohtani, which means he will not be voted Most Valuable Player.

But the fact remains that he is useful in the eyes of the Rangers, whose bullpen is costing the team a playoff spot.

Among hitters only (not including Ohtani’s contribution as a pitcher), Seager is the American’s best hitter in terms of WAR.

WAR calculates how many more (or fewer) wins a player brings compared to if he had been replaced by an average player.

And to see that Seager is at the top of the American list among hitters (Ohtani has a WAR of 10 if we add his pitching stats) is crazy… since he only has 107 games under his belt.

In 107 games, Seager still has 31 home runs, 92 RBIs and his OPS of 1.041 as well as his average of .334 demonstrate that he is dominant.

Bruce Bochy even dares to compare Seager’s contribution to two players with whom he worked in California: Tony Gwynn and Barry Bonds. Nothing less.

The Rangers don’t have the easiest schedule between now and the end of the season: there are plenty of matchups between the Mariners and Texas on the menu.

But if Seager and Semien continue to play like this, it will help.
