We clearly feel that the rivalry between the Blue Jays and the Yankees is becoming more and more important. After all, Alek Manoah likes to fuel the fire between him and Gerrit Cole… and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also likes to add to it.
Whether it was saying it was “easy to perform against the Yankees” or saying he would never sign with the Bronx Bombers (even if he was dead), he clearly showed his colors.
These are comments that have surely given gas to his people this winter, but they are also comments that could haunt him if ever the first baseman does not have the expected season.
I expect a big season from him and I think he will continue to have success against the Yankees, but let’s not forget that he also woke up the sleeping bear.
After all, I can’t believe that on the sidelines of the duels against the representatives of the Queen-City, the Yankees players are not going to display his quote to motivate themselves…
With his wisdom, his father (Vladimir Guerrero, of course) wanted to talk to his son after he made his comments against the Yankees to tell him that it was not a good idea.
According to the former Montreal Expos, you never know what training will end up paying you. He therefore warned his son in order to protect him in the future.
It’s clear his goal is to get paid by the Blue Jays. He clearly loves his life in Toronto and he probably wants to be paid (at his fair value) to stay there.
But there again, a player is never safe from a transaction. Remember that Josh Donaldson spoke against Gerrit Cole before being traded to the Yankees…
So we understand the father, but in terms of the pleasure of following baseball, it spices up the upcoming 2023 season a bit.
