Clarke Schmidt: we expect a Tommy John operation

For a few days, it's okay very bad for yankees. The club has completely collapsed, and after being swept by Blue Jays at the start of the week (costing the summit of the division), it lost another big game against the dishes yesterday.

Five defeats in a row, it hurts a club that was already tearing a lot before this sequence.

However, the club also awaited news about Clarke Schmidt, who had hastily left the match when he left against the Jays this week. We knew that his forearm was tensewhich possibly suggested bad news …

And today, Aaron Boone has given bad news about his launcher: we expect a Tommy John operation.

It would obviously miss the rest of the campaign … but possibly all year 2026 too.

Schmidt has been one of the best launchers in the majority since the start of the last season. An old first round choice, Schmidt has maintained an MPM of 3.04 in 30 departures since the start of the 2024 campaign.

He was bored by injuries a few times, but when he is on the mound, he is dominant. That said, it is not likely to be for a good time.

Like Gerrit Cole, therefore, Schmidt is expected to have a short time. This is another devastating loss for Yankees, which are also deprived of the services of Luis Gil and Ryan Yarbrough at the moment.

The good news is that these two should come back by the end of the season … but it puts even more pressure on Max Fried and Carlos Rodon at the top of the rotation.

The club already had serious needs for the third goal and in the enclosure, but the loss of Schmidt could create an important need in the club's rotation. And with a week that has already been difficult for bombers, losing Schmidt for more than a year is perhaps the worst news of the last days.

It could hardly have been worse for Yankees for a week. Let's see if the club will bounce back.
