Blue Jays: players want John Schneider back as manager

Last night the Blue Jays lost their second game of the playoffs to the Seattle Mariners. The Toronto club were unable to take advantage of the home field advantage to slip away with the victory.

There was some action in yesterday’s game, but seeing George Springer fall in battle when he made contact with Bo Bichette was reminiscent of the late game at Rogers Centre.

But now the Jays must look to the future. And at the heart of the changes that there could be, there is the position of manager.

John Schneider, who got the job on an interim basis last July after the departure of Charlie Montoyo, has won 46 of the Blue Jays’ 92 wins (or half) this season. He did not draw a single playoff win. The last Jays manager to win a playoff game? John Gibbon.

He was challenged for some pitching decisions yesterday, but in my eyes getting Kevin Gausman out of the game was the right decision. After all, he was running out of gas…

This means that the interim manager has reached the end of his contract. He can’t do anything more (on the pitch) to improve his lot in order to have the full-time position.

The question therefore arises: will he be reappointed?

Several players questioned on the subject answered thatthey wanted to see Schneider again at the helm of the club in 2023. From the lot? Matt Chapman.

From what I can gather, I have a feeling the Blue Jays are going to bring him back. The guys liked it and the management, recently questioned about it, said it was also in the plans.

And I don’t see what he did, in the playoffs, to lose his job.

What must also be understood is that Schneider was starting to see his name circulating and the Blue Jays made sure to appoint him as manager (in particular) to keep him in town. See Schneider, who is on the payroll with the organization since 2002, staying in town appeals to the Jays.

My verdict? He should be back.
