Abraham Toro will start the season in the AAA

Bad news for Abraham Toro: the Quebecer failed to convince the Milwaukee Brewers to make room for him at the start of the season.

He will report to the Brewers AAA club (in Nashville) to start the 2023 campaign.

The one who was traded from the Mariners to the Brewers during the offseason had the objective of convincing his new club to make room for him at the start of camp. Unfortunately, it is not the case.

Toro, who represented Canada at the last World Classic, had done well at the Classic as the club’s regular third baseman.

His tougher training camp hurt him.

He was therefore overtaken by a few players in the infield. This includes Luke Voit, who signed a one-year contract with an option year, and Brice Turang, a big hope for the club.

No, Toro doesn’t really play shortstop or first base like his comrades, but already there, that’s two spots less in the roster of 26 players for the Quebecer.

He will have to work hard in the AAA to earn a recall.

Across Quebec, this casts doubt on the presence of a Quebecer in a major league baseball roster to start the next season.

After all, even if Édouard Julien (Twins) had a strong camp and a good Classic, he will start the season in the AAA.

Charles Leblanc (Marlins), who is recovering from an injury, will also start at the bottom.

Currently, the best hope of Quebec is to hope to see Otto Lopez take the 26th and last position available in Toronto. I like his chances, for what it’s worth.

No American team should therefore count on a Quebecer on March 30, therefore.

I expect to see all four guys play in the Majors at some point this season, but it’s possible all four will start in the AAA.

  • Anthony Volpe will hit ninth on Thursday.
